Workboat Crew member

Location

St Mary's, Isles of Scilly

Hours

Working hours as required, but in accordance with MLC.

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group is on the lookout for additional seafarers to work within the workboat fleet.

Job Summary

As a workboat crew member you will be working as part of a 2-person team, ensuring that freight is moved for our customers, as required by the freight team; The role is demanding and varied.

You will be assisting with:

Vessel mooring
Freight operations (including planning, crane operations, and securing)
Navigation
Vessel maintenance and upkeep (including dry-docking)

Knowledge/Skills

It is expected that you have a minimum basic knowledge of the following (however, training can be given):

Communications – including use of VHF and UHF radios.
Navigation and vessel handling – the ability to manoeuvre the workboat and check position using bridge equipment.
Berthing – bring workboat alongside and handling mooring ropes to secure the workboat.
Cargo handling – assist in slinging of loads, crane operations.

Qualifications

Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
Dedication and commitment to ‘Delivering for Scilly’
English and Maths to GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or 4.
MCA ENG1 medical (if not held, we will pay for this after a successful interview)
