One of the best ways to explore the Isles of Scilly is by exploring on foot. Each island has its own unique character where you will discover a landscape full of surprises, shifting in a medley of colours and senses throughout the day.
We have handpicked one of our favourite walks to share with you, go on and explore this St. Agnes islands walk; you’re in for a treat.
Island: St Agnes
Best for: Spring time flora, wildlife and historical vistas
Route: When landing on the island of St Agnes from one of the tripper boats, most people tend to head straight to the pub or across to the sandbar to explore the adjoining island of Gugh (depending on the tide).
But there’s a wonderful route that covers the coastline of the entire island in under 2 hours. Step off the boat and past the Turks Head pub, follow the single-track road past the sand bar to Gugh and take a left by Pot Buoys Gallery.
You’ll then hit the coast path, follow this and you can’t get lost, look out for rock formations, Bishop Rock lighthouse and Troytown farm- the perfect pit stop for the islands famous ice cream!
Your journey will take you along rugged cliff paths carpeted with gorse and wildflowers and the chance to see returning spring wildlife, as the tide laps against the shoreline below. This circular route brings you back to the quay on St. Agnes where you’ll meet your returning boat to the other islands.
This walk is just a snippet, if you prefer a selection of guided walks, then Walk Scilly from April 3rd-12th is the event for you. Over 10 days, 40 walks will take place across nine islands, inhabited and uninhabited.
